More About Elaine

Dr. Bapis’ is an author, educator and native of Ogden, UT. Her name is the 41st to be added to the perpetual plaque that lists all honorees since the inception of the award in 1993. The plaque hangs in the HCA Museum housed in the lower level of the Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Foremost among Dr. Bapis’ numerous accomplishments on behalf of the local Greek community is being a co-founder of the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox School in 1997. Margo Sotiriou and Vickie Folias were the other co-founders.

In addition, she was primary researcher/writer and she directed the production of Legacy of Faith, an informative book published in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in 2024.

In her remarks, Dr. Bapis singled out HCA members Bill Rekouniotis and Mike Korologos for their assistance in producing the keepsake publication. Upon receiving the AXIOS Award, Dr. Bapis said, “It is very gratifying to see 2,000 children learn to dance Greek, learn the Greek language and learn about our Greek culture,” referring to youth who have progressed through St. Sophia School since its founding
